A Bowl of Prasadam Can Change a Life
Seven years of serving the hungry, the homeless, and the forgotten — across the streets and shores of Greece.
A message to the Food Yoga International family and all who carry compassion in their hearts.
My name is Anastasiya, founder of Food Yoga Greece, and for the last seven years, Greece has been both my home and my field of service. I came here not knowing what I would find — and what I found was overwhelming need, incredible human resilience, and the immense power of a single, sanctified meal to restore dignity to a human being. Since 2017, our non-profit organization has distributed thousands of plant-based Prasadam (blessed food) meals across Athens and Greek islands, serving refugees fleeing conflict, elderly Greeks facing economic hardship, and homeless individuals forgotten by society.
“A simple bowl of Prasadam (sanctified food) is more than a meal. It is a message of peace — delivered without condition, without judgment, without exception.”
At Food Yoga Greece, we have spent seven years bringing plant-based, lovingly prepared food to those navigating their hardest moments. Refugee families newly arrived on European shores. Elderly residents who have outlived their support networks. People without homes in the heart of Athens, surrounded by a city that moves too fast to see them.
We see them. And we serve them — not just food for the body, but nourishment for the mind and soul. This is the philosophy of food yoga: that food prepared and offered with love carries a spiritual energy that heals what ordinary meals cannot. Prasadam, meaning “mercy” in Sanskrit, represents food that has been sanctified through devotional preparation and offering. Unlike conventional charity meals, each bowl we distribute is prepared with meditation, prayer, and genuine care, transforming simple ingredients into powerful medicine for both physical hunger and spiritual emptiness. Our mission is growing — and so are the needs we encounter. Greece remains one of Europe’s front lines for humanitarian need, with refugee arrivals, economic hardship, and social isolation creating a steady, urgent demand. We cannot turn away from that. We will not.
But we cannot do this alone. Every donation, however modest, keeps Srila Prabhupada’s timeless vision alive here — that no one should go hungry. The highest form of service is to feed another living being with love.
Srila Prabhupada’s vision
No one within ten miles of a temple should go hungry
We carry this mission into the streets of Athens, the shores of Greek islands, and wherever need calls us. Help us keep that flame alive.
