Food Yoga International volunteers responding to the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake in western Colombia have now served more than 3,000 freshly prepared plant-based meals to survivors and affected communities.

But the situation on the ground remains desperate.

Our volunteers are not only preparing and distributing food. In some of the worst-affected areas, they are helping clear rubble, assisting rescue efforts and, tragically, helping recover bodies from collapsed buildings.

This is the reality our teams are facing. And they urgently need our support.

Thousands Still Need Help

The 7.4-magnitude earthquake has caused widespread destruction across western Colombia, leaving communities in urgent need of food, rescue assistance and humanitarian relief.

Hundreds of people have died, thousands have been injured, homes and infrastructure have been destroyed, and many people remain missing after the earthquake.

Some of the communities most affected by the earthquake are difficult to reach, particularly in Chocó and other remote areas where damaged roads, landslides and limited infrastructure continue to complicate emergency relief efforts.

Our volunteers on the ground report that many communities are still not receiving sufficient assistance.

International rescue assistance has also become a point of controversy, with some offers of foreign assistance reportedly declined during the initial response.

Whatever happens at the governmental level, one fact remains:

People are hungry today.

And our volunteers are already there.

More Than 3,000 Meals Served

Food Yoga International mobilized immediately following the earthquake. Local volunteers began buying ingredients, cooking fresh meals, and taking food directly into affected communities.

As of August 14, 2026, Food Yoga International volunteers have already served more than 3,000 freshly prepared plant-based meals to people affected by the earthquake in western Colombia.

And because FYI operates with an exceptionally lean volunteer model, we can make donations go remarkably far.

We can provide a complete meal for approximately 30 cents.

That means:

$10 can provide around 33 meals.

$25 can provide around 83 meals.

$50 can provide around 166 meals.

$100 can provide around 333 meals.

Few humanitarian food relief operations can deliver freshly prepared meals at this level of efficiency.

One reason is simple:

All Food Yoga International workers are volunteers.

There are no large salaries consuming emergency donations. Our people donate their time because they believe that feeding someone in need is one of the most immediate and meaningful forms of service.

We Need At Least $700 Every Day

To sustain the current emergency response, we need to raise at least $700 every day.

At our current cost of approximately 30 cents per meal, that funding can provide more than 2,300 meals every single day.

That is more than 2,300 opportunities each day to place warm food into the hands of someone who may have lost their home, their possessions, or someone they love.

But without funding, our volunteers cannot keep purchasing ingredients, fuel and supplies. The volunteers are there. The kitchens are operating. The need is enormous.

What we need now are the resources to keep them cooking.

Our Volunteers Are Doing Whatever Is Needed

The people responding through Food Yoga International did not arrive expecting to become rescue workers. They came to feed people. But when you are standing beside a collapsed building, and someone needs help, you do not simply walk away.

Our volunteers are cooking. They are delivering food. They are helping displaced families. They are clearing debris. They are assisting people searching for loved ones. And in some heartbreaking situations, they are helping pull bodies from the rubble.

These are ordinary people responding to an extraordinary tragedy. They are not being paid. They are simply serving.
