Sustainable
Development Goals

“The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership” – The United Nations. Here at Food For Life Global, we have made it a mission to achieve as many of these goals as possible. Listed below are some of the goals we have responded to.

We are addressing 7 of the 17 SDG goals

Food Yoga International, formerly Food For Life Global is always striving towards a better future. Enhancing the world for those who need it through the basis of purer food. Through the below Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), FYI is making an impact for greater change.

GOAL ONE

No
Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

No Poverty

Every day, over 900 million people go to bed hungry and 28,000 children
die from poverty-related causes. Worldwide, 1.2 billion people live on less than $1 per day.
Food Yoga International, formerly Food for Life Global has served more than 3 billion hot, nutritious, plant-based meals in more
than 65 countries since its inception. Every day, Food Yoga International distributes over 1,000,000
free meals to needy people in over 180 cities worldwide.

GOAL TWO

Zero
Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition & promote sustainable agriculture

Zero Hunger

Food Yoga International’s primary mission is to bring about peace and
prosperity in the world through the liberal distribution of pure plant-based meals prepared with
loving intentions. Food has the innate ability to break down barriers and bring people together,
healing the body, mind, and soul in the process. Food Yoga International affiliates, therefore, serve
only the purest of food—food that is devoid of animal suffering, prepared and served with love.
Furthermore, recognizing that the ultimate solution to the problem of hunger is the elimination of
poverty.

GOAL THREE

Good Health &
Well-Being

Ensure healthy lives & promote well-being for all at all ages

Good Health &
Well-Being

Nutritional support, health education, and medical services are all part
of Food Yoga International’s efforts to fight disease and promote health around the world
through programs such as the Bhaktivedanta Hospital in India, and Project Future Hope that
is saving the lives of orphans in Kenya.

GOAL FOUR

Quality
Education

Ensure inclusive & equitable quality education & promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Quality Education

Around the world, 115 million school-aged children—56% of them girls and
94% of them in developing countries—do not attend school.
Education provides the key to solving the root causes of hunger by empowering individuals to
participate in a society’s economy, but learning is virtually impossible when the pain of hunger demands attention. Food Yoga International and its affiliate programs support education by
providing not only schools and teachers but also nutritious meals to give the body and the mind
the fuel to learn. Food for Life Global’s (Midday Meal Program) in India, for example, feeds over
1 million children daily.

GOAL TEN

Reduced
Inequalities

Reduce inequality within & among countries

Reduced Inequalities

Two-thirds of illiterate people are women. Half of the 40 million
HIV-positive people in the world are women, and that proportion is growing. Women held only
15% of legislative seats in national assemblies in 2003.
Food Yoga International recognizes the devastating effects of poverty on women. While women in
developing countries are traditionally responsible for food production, nutrition, family planning,
health, and education, resources are allocated primarily to men. Food Yoga International programs
seek to lead women out of poverty and into self-sufficiency by providing training and skills, as
well as small business loans and cooperative savings programs.

GOAL ELEVEN

Sustainable Cities
& Communities

Make cities & human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient & sustainable

Sustainable Cities & Communities

Over 2.4 billion people lack access to proper sanitation facilities and
one billion lack access to drinkable water. Some two million children—6,000 a day—die
every year from preventable infections spread by dirty water or improper sanitation facilities.
Food Yoga International promotes environmental stewardship through education and action
programs such as Trees for Life, planting tree saplings in school playgrounds and teaching
the school children the importance of protecting and maintaining the environment.
Furthermore, all of FYI’s food programs are completely vegan, providing a
sustainable alternative to meat.

GOAL THIRTEEN

Climate
Action

Take urgent action to combat climate change & its impact

Climate
Action

“There is no country that is not experiencing the drastic effects of climate change.
Greenhouse gas emissions are more than 50 percent higher than in 1990. Global warming is
causing long-lasting changes to our climate system, which threatens irreversible consequences
if we do not act.” -undp.org
When disaster strikes, Food Yoga International is there to help. Through a network of
dedicated volunteers, FYI can quickly respond to natural disasters like hurricanes, floods,
typhoons, and earthquakes. FYI also supports refugees and those affected by War.
