HOW TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING OUR CAMPAIGN
My Reconnection Project
We realize that saving animals and having an animal sanctuary is only part of the solution...
Therefore, we believe that EDUCATION, STERILIZATION and RECONNECTION are the keys!
Let’s be honest…when was the last time you hugged a bull? Or the last time you saw a cow playing and jumping next to you? Or the last time you hugged a horse? For most people, it has never happened. The majority of us have lost a connection with animals, and, therefore, people don’t feel what animals feel, nor hear what they are trying to communicate with us. Most of us believe animals are much different from us, but the reality is far different. Animals have the same basic needs as humans and they feel, think, socialize, just likes humans do.
At Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary, we want people to have a real interaction with animals, that they would only normally see on the dinner table. When humans reconnect with animals they feel a natural affinity and begin to see animals as equals worthy of love and respect.
We plan to invite schoolchildren of all ages to spend a day at our farm and enjoy a delicious vegan lunch and provide them information they can share with their parents. After they enjoy their plant-based lunch and play with a cow or a bull, they will "join the dots" and see how farm animals are no different from their pet dog at home, who want love and respect.
The Current situation
Right now, we have 45 animals protected (domestic and farm animals) under our care. We have the ONLY no-kill animal sanctuary in Colombia. There are many dog and cat shelters in Colombia with more than 400 animals, but like all shelters they have a policy to euthanize animals once the population exceeds their capacity. A sanctuary is a place where animals can live our their entire lives safe and healthy.
Our Sanctuary is unique in that is also the only sanctuary in South America that offers reiki services. We are accredited by Kathleen Prasada's Shelter Animal Reiki Association (SARA). See the video endorsement by Kathleen Prasad.
The Street dogs of Bogota
In Bogota, the capital of Colombia, there are an estimated 45,000 street dogs and cats at any one time. To manage this overpopulation of street animals, there is a government sponsored office called Zoonosis that takes them from the streets. This office has a direct order from the government to kill at least 400 dogs and cats a week (an estimated 25,000 of them a year) in order to cull the expansion of these street animals.
All this mass slaughter of innocent animals is why I decided to dedicate my life to helping all animals.
It has been my dream since I was a little girl to rescue animals. As a young schoolgirl, I would bake cakes to sell at school to help me realize my dream of an animal sanctuary. I saved and saved until one day I had enough money to purchase a small plot of land in 2009. We have since moved from that property to an even better location as explained in my first IndieGoGo campaign.
Although 2015 is starting on positive and solid footing, we still have much to do and so we decided to again turn to crowd funding to help realize our new goals.
There are many millions of animals that are in terrible pain with no hope of shelter and so no amount of shelters can save them all, but we can do the following...
PROJECT 1: Street Sterilization
The main problem here is that cats and dogs in the street are multiplying daily. We need to slow down the expansion. So I want to get monthly donations to sponsor the sterilization of dogs and cats in the street. The ones who are in better condition we can also help to find a home for them. But even if we are unable to find them a home, at least they are not going to multiply.
PROJECT 2: Senior Animal Care
I want to help senior animals and those in special need. At a typical animal shelter in my country, if the dogs are old or their medicine is too expensive, they are “put to sleep.” In other words, they kill them in a ‘sweet way’ without a care to ask them if they want to continue living or to go play with their friends.I would like to give these very sick and old animals a second chance; to honour their seniority and show them that if it is their time to leave this world they can do so surrounding by love with all the medicine and care they need. I’ve been doing this at my sanctuary since the beginning and I’d like to do more.I also want to help those animals with mental scars; the ones that have been abused by humans and try to find a place here or in other countries where they can get the special care they need to heal their “wounds.” My unique connection with animals is that they allow me to communicate with them and I have a special ability to understand what they are saying to me and can respond in ways that makes them feel happy and safe again.
PROJECT 3: Education and Vegan Advocacy
We plan to educate people to understand why they should not slaughter innocent animals for food; why they deserve respect like us; why we have to honour their life and why we have to help those without a voice in any way possible. We want to teach them about the value of a plant-based diet, for health, the economy and the environment.
I believe, without a doubt, that the way to a happier world is through honoring the equality of all beings and I want to be a catalyst for this change. I want to be an instrument for animals to explain to humans what they want, what they feel, what they need, and what they love.
Meat-Free Monday Campaign
It has been more than 10 years since I began distributing free vegan food to people in need and to children at schools in Bogota. This passion for educating people about the plight of farm animals has now enabled us to join forces with the McCartney family to introduce Meat-free Mondays into Colombia and to expand our vegan education outreach efforts with the help of one of the most famous people in the world.
- Invite the public, especially school children to visit our sanctuary and interact with the animals.
- Conduct vegan cooking classes.
- Educate the public about the benefits of a meat-free diet
With this new IndieGoGo campaign, we hope to fully realize these dreams.

Risks & Challenges
We will give 100% of our effort to making this project a success and have formed alliances with organizations and people in the US to fulfill our promise. For example, we have formed a partnership with Yogi's Ark and A Well-Fed World, both registered non-profits in the US to guide us through this sustainability initiative. On top of this, the Vegans are Cool website has offered to help us fundraise for the next 12 months with 100% of their fundraising going to help our animal sanctuary.
We have also brought on expert financial advisors and legal counsel to help navigate our success.
Other Ways You Can Help
If you are unable to donate at this time, here are some other practical things you can do to make a difference:
- Get the word out and make some noise about our campaign, specifically using the Indiegogo share tools. The short code for our campaign is:
Offer your professional expertise. We are always in need of marketers and social media experts, as well as public relations and corporate sponsor experts.
- Why not gift something that will last forever -- gratitude. You can do that by gifting someone a donation to support rescued animals.

Thank you for your time. We hope you can be part of our growing family of animal lovers and supporters.
