Every day, our goal at Krishna Lunch is to distribute as much karma-free
food as possible, without wasting a scrap, both with service on campus and
daily deliveries to homeless shelters in Gainesville.
To help people avoid tossing out excess food they don't want, we usually
serve modest first portions to guests coming through the Krishna Lunch line
so they can taste everything and decide which dishes they want for second
servings. However, if you are familiar with the Krishna Lunch dishes and
know what you want, please just ask your server for more the first time
On rare occasions on very busy days toward the end of the lunch, we might
run low on a dish. Otherwise, at any time we'll gladly give you as much of
anything as you want. Just ask your server.
Thank you for your understanding and for helping us avoid waste.
Thursday, September 17, 2015, is the 50th anniversary of the arrival in
America of Hare Krishna founder Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Srila Prabhupada, who had never been out of India before his voyage to
America on a cargo ship, was 70 years old and without friends or financial
support in America when he arrived. Before passing away eleven years later,
he traveled extensively, including a stop in Gainesville, inspiring
bhakti-yoga temples and programs such as Krishna Lunch throughout the world.
In honor of the occasion, some friends of Krishna Lunch have cooked over
1000 puris, a savory Indian bread, to compliment the Thursday Krishna Lunch
menu. Please help us enjoy them!
