We have just launched a GoFundme to support our affiliate in Mexico to provide freshly cooked vegan meals to the thousands of migrants approaching the US. Please consider supporting this effort, where $10 can feed about 20 people. Please help me reach the goal of $5000 to cover the cost of our team there. Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary located in Chia, Colombia is the coordinating office for Food for Life Global projects in Latin America and they will be coordinating this effort and raising the funds to support it. Food for Life Global is the headquarters for a network of 211 projects serving over 1.5 million meals daily and recently served the 5 billionth meal. The Food for Life Mexico team is already cooking meals and will start distribution tomorrow, November 10. We estimate that the first caravan of people number around 5000, with 30% being children. If we can reach our campaign goal we believe we can feed the 2nd wave of migrants as well. UPDATE: Over 40,000 meals were served by the volunteers during a 4-week campaign.
Over 1 million people displaced by massive flooding in Kerala Devastating floods have killed more than 400 people and engulfed entire towns in a southern state in India. A total of 10,28,000 people have been sheltered in 3,274 camps in the flood-hit districts, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday while tonnes of emergency aid poured in from all over the country. The massive flood in Kerala has been declared a calamity of severe nature, the Union home ministry said on Monday. “Keeping in view the intensity and magnitude of floods and landslides in Kerala this is a calamity of severe nature for all practical purposes,” a home ministry official said. FFL Responds Food for Life Global’s partner in India, the Annamrita Foundation are already responding to the disaster, providing freshly prepared vegan meals. Food for Life Global has affiliates in the Kerala state that are already serving thousands of hot meals to survivors. A team of cooks and servers from Mumbai arrived recently and are serving an additional 2000 hot meals a day in areas around Kerala. Food for Life Mexico was supported by Food for Life Global with a grant last year to respond to the massive earthquake that hit the city. Thousands of vegan meals were served during those chaotic weeks following the devastation and they received praise from the local Red Cross agency that told them that their meals were the best of all humanitarian agencies. Fast forward to 2018, and the newly created team has expanded its efforts and is providing hundreds of meals weekly. They recently provided 400 meals to patients at the Trajimos Hospital. “We are serving our patients what they request,” explained program manager Annapurna dasi. “Of course, every meal is vegan and today we served oatmeal porridge, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fresh fruit (mango and bananas).”
Oaxaca, MEXICO: Food for Life Mexico was a first responder to magnitude 7.1 earthquake that rocked Mexico on September 19, the second to strike Mexico in as many weeks, killing at least 230 people in the capital and across five states. Officials said the toll was likely to rise. Food for Life Mexico, operated by ISKCON Mexico began serving hot vegan meals to people in Ixtaltepec, Tehuantepec, and Juchitan the next day. However, these areas now are very dangerous because of widespread looting and panic. Around 500 meals are served twice a day to local people who are now living in makeshift tents in front of their destroyed homes. More than 80 percent of the houses are destroyed. For breakfast, they are serving porridge with raisins and fruits and fresh bread, and in the evening a full meal of rice, vegetables, and dhal. “Things are absolutely chaotic here,” explained one of the volunteers. We are hardly sleeping. We are so busy now trying to feed people and that begins with trying to find food to make the meals. Everything is destroyed here!” Apparently, government officials have fear to enter the area because the thieves have been stealing phones and equipment at gunpoint. FFLG South American Coordinator, Juliana Castaneda Turner reported that the relief teams need better equipment, including larger pots, cooking spoons, refrigerator, and plates. “They are doing the best they can with what they have,” she explained. Currently, Food for Life Mexico is the only relief organization helping people with food. Local Krishna monks are also singing to the survivors as they take their meals to raise their spirit. UPDATE October 14, 2017 Meals continue to go out. Food for Life Global recently contributed $4200 from donations to help continue the work and purchase new equipment, including a new refrigerator and pots. To […]

HELP US HELP TEXAS FLOOD VICTIMS An estimated 21 trillion gallons of rain fell on the Houston area as a result of Hurricane Harvey, causing 51 inches of flooding in the worst hit places and resulting in over 1 million displaced people. Harvey’s devastating flooding brought back tough memories in New Orleans as Tuesday marked the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The death toll in Texas related to Hurricane Harvey rose to at least 37 Thursday morning, CNN reports. The Govinda’s vegetarian restaurant in Houston has been offering 300-400 free vegan meals to victims since the storm hit, however, they are now delivering free vegan meals to area shelters, including 200 hot meals to volunteers at the University of Houston who are doing volunteer service at various shelters. “The shelters don’t have vegan food for volunteers, so we stepped up,” says Shyamasundara, the ISKCON temple president. The temple is also offering spiritual counseling services for those in need and doing kirtan and prayer for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Food for Life Global is collecting funds on behalf of the vegan food relief. Please donate to sponsor free vegan meals to those in need in Texas. More update coming soon… You can make a difference with a gift to Food for Life Global via our US partner A Well-Fed World. Your donation will help more people become free of hunger. Food for Life Global is requesting donations to buy a mobile kitchen for our affiliate in Serbia to distribute more than 60,000 vegan meals over the next 6 months to feed refugees seeking asylum in Serbia. “We are already serving as the main source of food to many refugees pouring through this country, but we could be so much more effective if we could feed them on the spot,” explained Moksha Rupi, head chef for FFL Serbia. The alarming living conditions of refugees coming to Eastern Europe Since the beginning of 2015, more than 350,000 migrants and refugees have arrived at European borders with unaccompanied children and vulnerable families making up thousands of them. At the risk of their own lives, these men and women flee the war in the Middle East in the hope of offering a better life and a hopeful future to their children. Seeing images of boats capsize on the Mediterranean coast and the distress of migrants trying to reach Europe, we all wonder what we can do to help. Refugee families need everything from a shelter to warm clothes, medical and psycho-social support. But the first basic need they experience is the lack of food that is suitable for their journey. How Food for Life is directly helping the refugees Since the beginning of refugee influx in Europe, Food for Life is doing everything in its power to answer that need. Since October, FFLG has distributed over 12,000 meals to refugee families throughout several countries (Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia & Hercegovina, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, France and the UK). We supply hot plant-based meals freshly cooked the same day and served with love, but also fruits, beverages, and clothing to face the increasing cold. Thanks to our experience and network of volunteers across Europe, we were […]
