The Food Yoga Academy, the brainchild of International director of Food for Life, Paul Rodney Turner (aka Priyavrata das) has officially launched. The Academy’s first course is Food Yogi Certification Level 1, where students can learn the fundamentals of the food yoga lifestyle and how to enrich their lives through conscious eating and devotion. Based on the teachings of his book, FOOD YOGA – Nourishing Body, Mind & Soul, students will learn the art and science of eating with consciousness and compassion to provide a framework to elevate the act of eating from the dry and mundane to a soul-satisfying experience. In this introduction to Food Yoga, Turner lays out the 10 fundamental truths. Students will learn about the more subtle aspect of food and how to achieve optimum health by practicing the Food Yogi diet and lifestyle, which includes, what to eat, when to eat, water therapy, detoxing and the sacred geometry of wholefoods. The courses will also include raw vegan food demonstrations, including smoothies, pates and crackers, cheesecakes, and soups, etc. Students will be tested at the end of the course to earn their certification. WHAT IS FOOD YOGA? “This Level 1 course gives the fundamentals of the prasadarian lifestyle,” says Turner. “However, in Level 2 we will dive deep into all the details of preparing food with love in order to nourish the mind and spirit. Oaxaca, MEXICO: Food for Life Mexico was a first responder to magnitude 7.1 earthquake that rocked Mexico on September 19, the second to strike Mexico in as many weeks, killing at least 230 people in the capital and across five states. Officials said the toll was likely to rise. Food for Life Mexico, operated by ISKCON Mexico began serving hot vegan meals to people in Ixtaltepec, Tehuantepec, and Juchitan the next day. However, these areas now are very dangerous because of widespread looting and panic. Around 500 meals are served twice a day to local people who are now living in makeshift tents in front of their destroyed homes. More than 80 percent of the houses are destroyed. For breakfast, they are serving porridge with raisins and fruits and fresh bread, and in the evening a full meal of rice, vegetables, and dhal. “Things are absolutely chaotic here,” explained one of the volunteers. We are hardly sleeping. We are so busy now trying to feed people and that begins with trying to find food to make the meals. Everything is destroyed here!” Apparently, government officials have fear to enter the area because the thieves have been stealing phones and equipment at gunpoint. FFLG South American Coordinator, Juliana Castaneda Turner reported that the relief teams need better equipment, including larger pots, cooking spoons, refrigerator, and plates. “They are doing the best they can with what they have,” she explained. Currently, Food for Life Mexico is the only relief organization helping people with food. Local Krishna monks are also singing to the survivors as they take their meals to raise their spirit. HELP US HELP TEXAS FLOOD VICTIMS An estimated 21 trillion gallons of rain fell on the Houston area as a result of Hurricane Harvey, causing 51 inches of flooding in the worst hit places and resulting in over 1 million displaced people. Harvey’s devastating flooding brought back tough memories in New Orleans as Tuesday marked the 12th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The death toll in Texas related to Hurricane Harvey rose to at least 37 Thursday morning, CNN reports. The Govinda’s vegetarian restaurant in Houston has been offering 300-400 free vegan meals to victims since the storm hit, however, they are now delivering free vegan meals to area shelters, including 200 hot meals to volunteers at the University of Houston who are doing volunteer service at various shelters. “The shelters don’t have vegan food for volunteers, so we stepped up,” says Shyamasundara, the ISKCON temple president. The temple is also offering spiritual counseling services for those in need and doing kirtan and prayer for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Inspired by Srila Prabhupada – the Founder Acharya of International Society for Krishna Consciousness who was a true visionary and wanted to see a hunger-free world, the motto of Annamrita is to serve “Food as Pure as Nectar” to all. In partnership with the Government of India and various State Governments and inestimable support from many philanthropic donors, corporates and well-wishers; Annamrita has grown from humble beginnings to serving just 900 students in one school, to today serving 1.2 million meals every day of which over 100,000 meals are served in Mumbai itself and nearly 300,000 meals daily in Maharashtra. The work received recognition and commendation through several awards and citations. This decision was preceded by 4 rounds which needed to be cleared; application and interview, then documentation, submissions and finally NGO site visits to the Mira Road and Tardeo kitchens that were both audited by a panel. Over the last 22 years, Food for Life Global (FFLG) brand has gone through a few incarnations, but what has been consistent throughout has been our cartoon character Prasadam das (servant of holy food). However, in 2016, our creative partners at WordPlay Studios in Sydney, Australia took upon the task of rebranding the organization to better suit the organization in 2017. During the rebranding process, the team began with the following challenge: FFLG is facing some challenges that most companies and organizations face as they mature. These challenges are such things as staying relevant to your audience, standing out in a crowd and finding an emotional connection with people. In short, FFLG is doing HUGE things but isn’t getting the recognition it deserves. We have defined a set of objectives in which we will address in the brand evolution process. These objectives are as follows: Objectives Gain more brand awareness & visibility Promote spiritual equality as an end to world hunger Better position FFLG to raise funds Deliverables Marketing, Identity, Social Media, Website & video content Create an identity that communicates FFLG’s ethos & core values Branded communication documents Firstly they deconstructed the existing branding, looking at the underlying tone and messages Food for Life Global has communicated over the years. Every design they then created focused on delivering a core message. They then created a variety of initial concepts looking at visual motives of nature, geometry, marigold flowers, thali plates and other abstract symbols. When they related each symbol back to FFLG’s core purpose – to unite the world through pure food – these symbols weren’t completely resonating.
