Donating Food for Children at Christmas
Christmas is a special time. It marks the closing of another year, with new beginnings around the corner. Family and friends gather together to celebrate with food and fellowship, sharing stories of the year’s events around tables filled with holiday dishes. Children laugh and play with their new toys without a care in the world.
This is not the Christmas that less fortunate children get to celebrate, however. Those without family, friends, or tables filled with food to go home to do not experience the same happiness we associate with the holidays. For those families who have fallen on hard times, Christmas is only a painful reminder of how little they have. They want nothing more than to give their children the Christmas they so deserve, but instead, they are left standing out in the cold, forced to watch the rest of the world celebrate.
What better gift to give at Christmas than the gift of happiness—of hope for the coming year?
How to help less fortunate children at Christmas
For families living in poverty, food is the number one concern for them and their children. Many families living in poverty can only afford to buy cheap food that is highly processed and lacking in life-giving nutrients. Studies have shown that a prolonged diet of cheap and highly-processed foods leads to significant health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer, which only causes more strain on a family already struggling to make ends meet.
Food insecurity among children can have detrimental effects later in life and perpetuate a vicious cycle of poverty. It’s our mission at Food for Life Global to interrupt this cycle and guarantee nutritious meals and healthy lives for children everywhere.
Food before presents
Why is it more important to donate food than toys at Christmas? Well, because you can’t eat toys.
Gift-giving charities are a wonderful holiday tradition and it’s a heartwarming thought—buying a toy for a child whose family can’t afford one. But even more important than toys to play with on Christmas day, is a healthy and sustaining meal.
A happy child is a well-fed child. That’s why the best gift you can give at Christmas is the gift of delicious and nutritious food for those who need it most.

Support the Annamrita program
The Annamrita program or Midday Meal Program is Food for Life Global’s principal affiliate program, benefitting impoverished schoolchildren in India. Poverty and hunger are an epidemic in India, and children simply cannot learn when they are hungry.
The Annamrita project is run so efficiently that they are able to serve a hot nourishing meal for as little as 10 cents on average. That means, for every $100 donated, 1000 meals are served. With a one-time gift of $100, you could feed five school children for an entire year!
This year, give the gift of happiness
Instead of a $10 toy that a child will play with for a few hours and then forget about, a donation that size can feed 20 hungry children a delicious and nutrient-dense meal. So, as you’re wrapping up your holiday shopping and checking friends and family off your list, consider making a holiday donation to Food for Life.
You can help us make Christmas a happy holiday for everyone.
